Eight of us set off from the village hall at 10am and parked at the cattle market carpark in Cowbridge. We walked to the traffic lights at the top end of Cowbridge then took a narrow footpath on the right of the A48 over the hill to New Beaupre and then up the wooded slope to St Hilary. From there the walk took us further up through the wood and out into open fields before dropping down to cross the A48 again and the little used road to Aberthin which crosses over the Cowbridge by-pass.
Half a mile along this road we branched off left onto a footpath across fields before dropping steeply down through a wood to emerge onto the Ponyclun road just under the by-pass. This was the definitely the most amusing part of the walk as all of us slipped and slid down the steep incline hanging onto trees as we descended.
Back in Cowbridge we walked past the allotments and ended up having a very nice coffee and snacks at Café Nero opposite Waitrose. Total walk distance was exactly 5 miles and the weather held fair throughout.
