Marcross and Plough and Harrow, 16 December

Seven of us set off from the village hall at 10am on a very blustery day, threatening rain which fortunately failed to materialise.

We walked down across the fields next to the school and crossed Water Street ending up on Lan Road, before taking the footpath eastwards towards Splott Farm. The path necessitated crossing an extremely muddy field with a young crop of turnips. Crossing two meadows we turned southwards until we reached the coast road coming out just before St Donats where Elwyn Thomas sells his veg on a Saturday morning.

Continuing towards the cliffs we then took another path westwards coming out by Marcross Farm passing, sadly, a dead hare on the side of a field. How it died was impossible to tell.

A further path took us to Marcross emerging close to the church. We walked down the road then back up just before the start of the Cwm across four fields, coming out onto the coast road once more and followed the road to the Plough and Harrow where we all enjoyed an excellent pub lunch, joined by Anne and Mags.

After lunch it was the short walk back to Wick. Total distance 12kms (7.5 miles)
