Monday’s walk was a little different from our usual format. As Andrew so beautifully put it ” What was there not to like about a short walk that led to a big breakfast.”
Fear not Wick Wanderers we are not about to abandon healthy walking in the beautiful Welsh countryside. This was a special occasion to support a fund-raising event for Prostate Cymru.

At the earlier time of 9.30, member’s congregated outside Wick Village Hall to start the walk along the country lanes leading to The Plough and Harrow at Monknash, via Broughton.
The rain decided to join us as we set off, but only a shower or two. It didn’t damper spirits, just made The Plough’s roaring log fire an even more welcoming sight. We settled around 3 tables and listened to a welcoming address by Chris Jones. Then all ate a very substantial breakfast whilst chatting with our fellow walkers. Another speaker Ian Norton followed with information on Prostate Cancer, The Charity and his own personal experience and involvement.
A raffle ended the event, which did end up with a few lucky walkers winning prizes. The most amusing result was Mary and Carroll both winning on separate tickets to end up with matching Ladies and Gents Weatherman Walking Socks!
We all headed back to Wick, with another apt quote this time from Carroll that “He was certainly carrying more weight back than he came with.” (And I don’t think he meant the socks!)
An enormous thank you to all who supported the event: 25 of us were present, plus others who donated their ticket money without being able to take part. Just proving what a lovely generous group Wick Wanderers is.
Whoever is organising the next walk, we need to walk off some calories please !
