Merthyr Mawr, 17th October

Fourteen Wick Wanderers met on a beautiful blue-sky morning and headed off to the B4524 where there happened to be exactly enough parking space to fit all our cars. A propitious beginning!

We then walked down to and over the Ewenny river and on towards St Teilo’s church. Then we split up 50/50, one half going on the longer walk down to Candleston castle and looping back, the other half taking a shorter stroll around Merthyr Mawr and the donkeys and on into the church.

Plenty of sunshine and splashes of autumn colour for both walks to enjoy. St Teilo’s offered a wonderful home-made spread for all, morning coffee, tea, cakes and buns, followed by a Harvest lunch of savouries and soup, all donated by the generous church community in their fund raising roles. (The church hopes for a new small and necessary building.)

Live music entertained us, and even the police came in for refreshments. The craft fair, selling chutneys and jams, meant that some W Wanderers went happily home carrying more than they set out with.
