We met at the village hall for the first of our evening walks with lovely sunny weather, and a good turnout, 12 in all, including my cousin David from Grimsby and newcomer Michelle.
Leaving the village hall, we turned right into Llantwit Road, then left toward Green Isaf Farm and continued along the track, avoiding 4 stiles, definitely a good idea. We now crossed 2 stiles and arrived at the stepping-stones of the Nant y Brychau brook and continued across the field to the left and as always accompanied by two very fine horses that followed us to the final stile on this walk, and a tricky doubler as well, but with a good team effort we were over, however, not without incident as Craig revealed a nasty cut on his arm.
We now heading toward Cwrt Newydd farmhouse and other nice farmhouses and bungalows, with Sutton Brook on our right we approached Llandow village. Taking a left turn away from the village, we continued along the track passing Franklen Farm, then Church Farm on the right with its newly refurbed and converted barns and glamping pods.
A bit further along we passed St Andrew’s Church. This is County Treasure No. 1383 (Source: Vale of Glamorgan Council) and described as a ‘Roofless ruin of a mortared stone structure, 9.5m by 6.2m, said to have been set in a rectangular, banked enclosure measuring 43m by 37m’. However, it seems the council are not aware that the church has been refurbished, no longer roofless and has been re-built to a good standard. We were now passing Clemenstone House, another County Treasure, and Tynewydd Farm now also holiday lets before reaching Ewenny Road.
Another 15 minutes or so, and we were at the pub. Many thanks to Emily at The Star for leaving the chip fryer on and providing bowls of very tasty chips to accompany our drinks.
