Our route took the paved cycle route through the now well-established forest and brought us to the Tondu Iron works, probably the best preserved in Britain. We returned to out start point, using another forest path.

After refreshments we headed westwards over the old opencast site and used the cycle route which runs alongside now disused Porthcawl to Tondu railway line. After some two miles we found the ruins of another iron works in Bedford Park. Our return was over the nature reserve.

Total distance was 7 miles and all traffic free!!
