This should have been a short walk led by Frank, but his bad back prevented him so we decided upon a moderately short one from Rest Bay, Porthcawl- an easy walk along the board walk until we thought it time to turn around. This was the hazy, lazy, plan!
When Monday dawned, it was obvious it was going to be a glorious morning, so 9 of us left the car park at Rest Bay and had a most delightful, gentle walk along the board walk and along to the headland beyond. The weather was so wonderful after a solid month of rain and cancelled walks that just walking along beside the sea was glorious. The sea was calm but with the occasional biggish wave breaking, the birds were out and about, ( my binoculars are still in the bedside table ….why?!) the sun was warm on our backs and it was especially good to have 2 of our members with us who have had recent health problems. Although some of us could have happily strode on for another good few miles, if we had had the time, taking it a little more slowly allowed us to bird watch and just soak up the much needed sun.
Although the plan had been to head to a coffee shop at the end of the walk, most of us had drinks with us, so we sat on the rocks by the shoreline and enjoyed our “elevenses” at noon in the sunshine. Ambling back along the board walk, I think we all felt better for a bit of exercise with good friends, in such a lovely area, on such a wonderful morning.
Thanks all for a good outing!
