As promised in the walk details, a short walk, and a long coffee stop. I think this is what we all needed on a lovely hot Indian Summer’s Day.
12 Wick Wanderer’s plus Linda’s daughter Elise met at Wick Village Hall. The final member Marie was spotted rounding the corner which enabled Wick Wanderer’s Choir to burst into a rousing chorus of “Happy Birthday” to welcome our Birthday Girl.
We then headed off to Aberthin, parked up and the group headed up the country lane towards Pant Wilkin Stables.

Normally we would find plenty to admire, today we were all so busy enjoying each other’s company, we were almost there before we stopped and were glad to see the small lake had water in again.
Another short stop was whilst we watched 4 young ladies try and mount their lively ponies. One in particular was quite frisky, and we stayed at a safe distance just in case they headed towards us!
Fortunately, we followed the horses to our destination of Fredwell’s, purchased our refreshments and sat outside in the sunshine, later moving into the shade. It was hot, and the complimentary lemon and lime water was very welcome.
On the return walk, I was determined to fulfil my promise and found some juicy blackberries for Margaret to enjoy. We also enjoyed looking at the lovely “Chocolate Box” Cottages, one of which had an apple tree laden with fruit. Some windfall apples were sitting in the clear waters of Nant Aberthin below, which Mags described as ready washed windfall apples! The owner had come to chat to us and said to help ourselves to the ones on her wall. All we needed was some pastry and we could have made an apple and blackberry pie (Well Mags could!).
It wasn’t long before we were back at our cars. Thanks for joining me today, everyone!
