Cold Knap and Barry Island, 4 November

Nineteen walkers left Wick and travelled to Barry, parking our cars at the top of Romilly Park where our walk started. The walk took us down through the park with crisp autumnal leaves underfoot, stopping to admire a newly erected bug hotel.

Leaving the park, we walked along the side of Cold Knap Lake, home to a large number of swans, ducks and geese, then on towards Watchtower Bay, turning up through the streets of Cold Knap and on to the causeway towards Barry Island.

Following the path along the coast and across the headland to Whitmore Bay we were treated to pleasant views of the Bristol Channel. Now down onto the sandy beach where the customary group photo was taken and then up to the promenade. Here, fans of Gavin and Stacey can enjoy spotting some of the filming locations from the TV series.

It was tempting to stop at Marcos Cafe for refreshments but after some consideration it was decided to carry on back to Romilly’s Cafe Cold Knap where a table had been booked awaiting our arrival, so we retraced our steps to Romilly’s where we enjoyed various refreshments and good company.

Thanks all for joining me
