Eleven of us met at the WVH and headed to the railway station car park in Llantwit Major, from where we commenced our walk.
We started by walking through the pound shopping precinct and onto the high street passing the five fully operational pubs (no recession here) most dating back to the 16th century, with the Swan being the oldest from the 12th century.
We continued passed the medieval Town Hall dating back to the 15th century, the ancient cobblestone road by the Whyte Hart inn and the Celtic memorial square.
We continued down to St Illtuds Church passing a few locations where filming for Doctor Who occurred. The church held our interest for a while before continuing on the back road, passing Plymouth House and onto the Duck Pond, where we were greeted by a flock of ducks.

We continued along West Street taking time out to look at many houses before passing the West House Country Hotel, currently not trading and looking very desolate. The referred to “Castle ruins” partly renovated and being occupied, is not a castle, but gets its name from being on Castle Street, the 17th century Great House, now operating in part as a B&B, on to windmill fields passing the windmill and onto Llanmaes Road.
The walk had been very interesting, relaxing and enjoyable, but time had run away with us and after already phoning the cafe (“Inturn”) once to advise we were running an hour late we decided to cut our walk short, missing Eagleswell Road, and head straight to the cafe.
We enjoyed a welcome coffee and as usual enjoyable chat. Thanks to Jenny who took the photo and is missing from our picture.
