Marcross, 23 March

Fortune follows the brave they say and with regard to the weather we can attest that such good fortune accompanied us.

We headed down Broughton Road/West Street where we were joined by Marie, who turned out to be a hive of knowledge on the houses/church and occupants of so many dwellings.

We turned left at the bottom of West Street, walking along side Nash Brook and headed around to Llan Road. The streams on the sides of the road were reminding us of how much rain we have had. We continued to the Horseshoe Inn, Marcross, where we took shelter under their portico from a heavy short shower. The scaffolding has all been taken down, but we couldn’t see any notification of when they intend to reopen.

We couldn’t resist taking a picture of some of the so many spring lambs that we had passed on our way. Continuing we moved onto and into the Holy Trinity church in Marcross (one of the twelve Glamorgan Heritage coast parish churches) before heading down to the coast and Monknash lighthouse. We stopped for a short while to have our own beverage and Mags renowned fruit cake.

The cliff top cafe being closed, we continued back up to Marcross along Dimlands Road and into the Plough & Harrow; where we lingered on a bit too long, enjoying a light lunch and beverages. We parted ways with Marie and headed back up to the WVH, arriving back at around 15.00 having walked a total of 7.5 miles. Again, a most enjoyable time and nice to be out.
