Monks Wood and Plough and Harrow, 1st October

Eleven walkers set off on a fine morning for a short walk to Monkswood. Fortunately, the fields leading there were full of grazing sheep and not cattle.

In Monkswood Moira Cotter very kindly stepped forward to speak of the work being done there and points of interest. The hope is to obtain grants and reinstate the pond with bog garden among other projects.

Many of us were unaware that the roundhouse had been built by two women, it is now a lovely place to shelter and rest. It is also used to hold various classes such as willow weaving. With Moira leaving us to carry on with her holiday packing, the rest of us headed to the Plough and Harrow for refreshments which, for some, included delicious smelling lunches.

After lots of chatting it was time to make our way back up Broughton Road just as a few drops of rain started.

A big thank you to Moira for all her information and the lovely company of our Wick Wanderers.
