The weather was cool and grey but thankfully no rain or gales as the group met in Southerndown. It was a good turnout of walkers and lovely to catch up with everyone after the Christmas break, and the whole walk was full of chatter.
We walked from outside the church in Southerndown to Groes Farm and continuing to Norton Farm which is now empty as the farmers, as well as the sheep and horses, have left the area. It was a sad to see it empty and all of us Ogmore residents will miss the sheep (but not the escapees eating our front gardens!) and their lovely sheep dog – Pepper.
We took the lane through the gate at the farm towards Ogmore. This has been very heavily pruned back making it much better for walking although the pruning was rather brutal. It will soon grow back as Spring arrives and we noted that it was good it had been done now and not while birds were nesting.

Arriving at Sutton Farm we turned along the lane, discussing some houses that are for sale, and headed to Ogmore Village Hall where we had coffee, cakes, and warmed ourselves up. From here we walked along the main road, noting the new stables and horses in one of the old sheep fields, and took the coast path by the Deeps back to Southerndown – with a group photo taken by the broken Samaritans sign on the cliff top at West Farm.
About a 5-mile loop in lovely company.
Thank you all.
