Vale Resort and Hensol Castle, 3rd May

Eleven of us turned up at the WVH and headed out for what turned out to be a most enjoyable walk.

We parked our cars on the road just outside of the gates to Hensol Castle and distillery, from where we commenced our walk.

We walked through the grounds of Hensol Castle passing the amazing buildings and private apartments before walking passed the areas where Cardiff City football and the Welsh Rugby Union have their training facilities.

We continued along through the Vale car park and onto the vale Golf Club and cafe; there were a number of golfers practising on the putting greens. We crossed our only style which was no challenge and moved on passing some more beautiful homes in the grounds. We continued along the path that exited onto the golf course, watched a few ladies on the Green for a few minutes before walking past the lake and holding back for a while to watch some golfers driving to reach the Green in front of us.

A number of Canadian Geese and ducks were enjoying the lake in the warm weather, so continued around the grounds and into a field, filled with sheep and young lambs, before walking through a wooded area and onto Hensol Road.

A number of cows were noticed relaxing in the field. A quick and easy decision, to slightly change our route was made as we proceeded toward the “Keepers Lodge Farm” and down towards Lake House and the Weir. It was here we stopped for a while enjoying cake made by Mags and Lynne.

We then continued through the woods, passing Forest Fach farm back onto Hensol Road, passing Llynarch Vineyard and back to our cars.

Our day was not yet complete as a unanimous decision was made to drive to the clubhouse for drinks and a light bite. We sat outside watching some golfers practicing on the putting Green, enjoying each other’s company and the glorious weather.

A most enjoyable day.
