Wick circular via Llandow, 9th August

With all the nasty weather of recent weeks it was very pleasing to meet at the village hall for the first of our summer walks with lovely sunny weather and a good turn out as well (12 in all).

We started the walk leaving the village hall and turning right into Llantwit Road, then left toward Green Isaf Farm, collecting Ann Davis along the way before crossing the stone stile.

Crossing a few more stone stiles we arrived at the stepping-stones of the Nant y Brychau brook and crossing the field to the left, the decision was made not to use the wood stile as in very poor condition and open the gate, good plan!

We were now approaching Cwrt Newydd farmhouse and a few other very nice bungalows and farmhouses, and with Sutton Brook on our right we approached Llandow village.

Taking the left turn from the village we continued along the track passing Franklen Farm that appears to be vacant at present and about to be refurbished. We were soon approaching Church Farm on the right and the Glamping Pods on the left full of happy campers.

A bit further along we could see St Andrew’s Church, County Treasure No. 1383 (Source: Vale of Glamorgan Council) and described as:

St Andrew’s Church before refurbishment!

‘Roofless ruin of a mortared stone structure, 9.5m by 6.2m, said to have been set in a rectangular, banked enclosure, 43m by 37m’.
However, the church is no longer roofless and has been refurbished to a very good standard it seems.

We were soon passing Clemenstone House, another County Treasure, and Tynewydd Farm, possibly now used as holiday lets before reaching Ewenny Road.

Another 10 minutes or so, and we were at The Star and with the sun still shining, time for a few drinks in the garden.
